Entry Requirements for Canada
U.S. Residents
- Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.
- As early as January 1, 2008, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. While recent legislative changes permit a later deadline, the Departments of State and Homeland Security are working to meet all requirements as soon as possible. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries

If you possess a valid Passport, you do not require a visa to visit Canada. All you need is a valid passport, a return ticket and sufficient funds to support yourself and your dependents during your stay in Canada. European visitors to Canada who wish to also visit the United States must possess valid passports to be admitted; residents of Portugal are further required to have a visa.

Persons under 18 years travelling without their parents should have a letter of authorization from a parent or guardian to travel into Canada.
Travelling with your pets
- Ensure your pet is licensed and has either collar tags or an ID tattoo
- Seek out lodgings that allow pets. Establishments have individual pet policies, so enquire in advance of making your reservation.
- Do not take your pet into wilderness areas, or on hikes where there is wildlife.

US Visitors:
- Visiting Canada for at least 48 hours: US visitors may take back merchandise for personal or household use up to the value of $400 duty free.
- - Visiting Canada for less than 48 hours: US visitors may take back $200 worth of merchandise free of US duty and tax.
